The Great British Bake Off: Season 11, Episode 2 – My Thoughts

It’s the highlight of my week (and maybe my year at this rate!), the second episode of the latest series of The Great British Bake Off. Last week, we welcomed 12 new bakers (and a new presenter, who is a fantastic addition so far I think!) into the tent to craft some cake creations including a Battenburg cake, pineapple upside down cakes and some (questionable, let’s be honest) celebrity bust cakes.

This week, the bakers battled biscuits. Again, it was a dose of joy, fun and excitement which we definitely needed right now.

As with my previous posts, I’ll talk about the bakers, the challenges and the result. SPOILERS AHEAD FOR THE GREAT BRITISH BAKE OFF, SEASON 11 EPISODE 2….

The bakers

As I said last week, it’s early days so my opinion on the bakers will change as the show goes on.

This week, I’m loving Lottie, Sura and Laura.

So far, I’m thinking Dave, Sura and Lottie are the ones to watch.

The challenges

The second week was Biscuit Week (another week I can fully get behind, if you ask me!) and, as always, the bakers took on the Signature, the Technical and the Showstopper challenges.

𝒮𝒾𝑔𝓃𝒶𝓉𝓊𝓇𝑒 𝒞𝒽𝒶𝓁𝓁𝑒𝓃𝑔𝑒

For the Signature Challenge, the bakers were asked to make 36 chocolate Florentines. I’ve never heard of them but they sound good- at least. There was a lot of mango, a bit of pink and even a clothes shaped biscuit.

𝒯𝑒𝒸𝒽𝓃𝒾𝒸𝒶𝓁 𝒞𝒽𝒶𝓁𝓁𝑒𝓃𝑔𝑒

For the Technical Challenge, the bakers were asked to make 12 handshaped coconut macaroons. Some filled with mango, others chocolate.

For the second Showstopper Challenge of the series, the bakers were asked to make 3D biscuit dinner set. Some looked fabulous, some looked like your Nan’s effort at the pottery.

The result

It was a tough one but the results were:

I’m not surprised by the Star Baker result but I am a bit surprised by the baker who was asked to leave the tent this week. Just shows you that anything can happen!

Next week, it’s Bread Week. Will they baguette through it ok? Or will the bakers knead a lie down?
