The Great British Bake Off: Season 11, Episode 3 – My Thoughts

It’s that time again. We’re three weeks in to the competition (already??). Last week, the bakers battled biscuits, crafting fiddly Florentines, marvellous macaroons and designing 3D biscuit dinner sets.

This week, the bakers were tasked with making Paul Hollywood’s speciality: bread. Though we’re only three weeks in, you can see that things are getting a bit more intense.

As with my previous posts, I’ll talk about the bakers, the challenges and the result. SPOILERS AHEAD FOR THE GREAT BRITISH BAKE OFF, SEASON 11 EPISODE 3.

The bakers

As I’ve said previously, my opinion on the bakers will change as the show goes on.

This week, I’m loving Lottie, Hermine and Linda.

The challenges

The third week was Bread Week (which basically describes my lunch choices all week, to be honest!) and, as always, the bakers took on the Signature, Technical and Showstopper challenges.

𝒮𝒾𝑔𝓃𝒶𝓉𝓊𝓇𝑒 𝒞𝒽𝒶𝓁𝓁𝑒𝓃𝑔𝑒

For the Signature Challenge, the bakers were asked to make two freeform soda breads: one sweet and one savoury. There were plenty of travel inspired breads, “adventurous” breads and just a pinch of risk.

𝒯𝑒𝒸𝒽𝓃𝒾𝒸𝒶𝓁 𝒞𝒽𝒶𝓁𝓁𝑒𝓃𝑔𝑒

For the Technical Challenge, the bakers were asked to make 6 rainbow-coloured bagels. Some looked like a fairground game, some onion rings and others looked like – Gasp! Shock! Horror! – actual bagels 🥯.

𝒮𝒽𝑜𝓌𝓈𝓉𝑜𝓅𝓅𝑒𝓇 𝒞𝒽𝒶𝓁𝓁𝑒𝓃𝑔𝑒

For the bread based Showstopper Challenge, the bakers were asked to make a large decorative bread plaque celebrating what the bakers are grateful for. None of them were as iconic as that bread lion, but there were still some impressive creations.

The result

As always, it was tough but the results were:

I’m not surprised by the results this week, to be fair. It just proved that things are constantly changing in the tent and the competition…and I can’t wait for what happens next.
