The Great British Bake Off: Season 11 Episode 7 – My Thoughts

Even though everything feels a bit rubbish (and very up in the air), the latest series of The Great British Bake Off has been exactly what Iโ€™ve needed. Itโ€™s just as cheery (and as stressful!) as I remember, and I think Matt Lucas is doing a fantastic job as a presenter.

Last week, the bakers were judged on their Japanese creations – from a brilliant bun Signature, to a matcha masterpiece Technical and a Kawaii cake Showstopper.

This week, the bakers went retro – taking on 1980s baking!

As with my previous posts, Iโ€™ll talk about the bakers, the challenges and the results. SPOILERS AHEAD FOR THE GREAT BRITISH BAKE OFF, SEASON 11 EPISODE 7.

The bakers

As Iโ€™ve said previously, my opinions on the bakers will change from show to show.

๐Ÿ’–๐Ÿ’–

๐’ฒ๐’ฝ๐‘œ ๐ผโ€™๐“‚ ๐“๐‘œ๐“‹๐’พ๐“ƒ๐‘”

This week, Iโ€™m loving Hermine, Laura, Lottie and Peter.

This week, Iโ€™m thinking Peter, Marc and Hermine.

The challenges

The seventh week of the competition was 1980s Week and, as always, the bakers took on the Signature, Technical and Showstopper challenges.

๐’ฎ๐’พ๐‘”๐“ƒ๐’ถ๐“‰๐“Š๐“‡๐‘’ ๐’ž๐’ฝ๐’ถ๐“๐“๐‘’๐“ƒ๐‘”๐‘’

For the Signature Challenge, the bakers were asked to make 8 shortcrust quiches. Iโ€™m not a quiche fan admittedly but the bakers definitely delivered interesting concepts and flavours.

For the Technical Challenge, the bakers were asked to make 6 custard and jam doughnuts. Now that is my kind of challenge! Some were more Dโ€™oh than doughnut but, being honest, Iโ€™d eat every single one!

For the Showstopper Challenge, the bakers were asked to make ice-cream cake. This definitely gave me Bin-gate vibes (only true Bake Off fans remember) but – when youโ€™re baking against the elements – melty mess is a given. Some of the bakers were more I-Scream than ice cream but I would still eat every single one.

The result

Like I always say, things are getting tougher each week as the competition goes on – and the bakers begin to prove themselves more and more.

It was a tricky one, but the results were:

โญ๏ธ Star Baker: Hermine

๐Ÿ‘‹๐Ÿป Out: Lottie

It was a difficult one this week – the heat definitely got to the bakers – but Iโ€™m so excited for Dessert Week.

Did you watch tonightโ€™s episode? Iโ€™d love to chat with you in the comments ๐Ÿ˜Š.
