It’s that time again, it’s another episode of The Great British Bake Off but – this time – it’s the Semi Final! I for one can’t believe how quick it has gone.
Last week, the bakers demonstrated their dessert skills as they crafted cheesecake, stumbled over Sussex puddings and were judged on their jelly designs.
This week, Semi Final Week, saw the bakers patisserie put to the test (I’m struggling to come to terms with it almost being the final).
As with my previous posts, I’ll talk about the bakers, the challenges and the results. SPOILERS AHEAD FOR THE GREAT BRITISH BAKE OFF, SEASON 11 EPISODE 9.

The bakers
As I’ve previously said, my opinions on the bakers will change from show to show – though there aren’t many to love/not love this week!
I couldn’t really say who I’m loving or the “ones to watch” this week because – being so close to the final – they’ve all proven themselves.

The challenges
The ninth week – and the semi final – of the competition saw the bakers patisserie put to the test. As is standard, they took on the Signature, Technical and Showstopper Challenges.
𝒮𝒾𝑔𝓃𝒶𝓉𝓊𝓇𝑒 𝒞𝒽𝒶𝓁𝓁𝑒𝓃𝑔𝑒
For the Signature Challenge, the bakers were asked to make 12 savarin – which took me a long time to figure out how to spell! All I do know about them is that I’d (very) happily eat them all for sure. There was a bit of trouble, plenty of alcohol and even a handshake.
𝒯𝑒𝒸𝒽𝓃𝒾𝒸𝒶𝓁 𝒞𝒽𝒶𝓁𝓁𝑒𝓃𝑔𝑒
For the Technical Challenge, the bakers were asked to make Danish cornucopia which was very technical indeed! It was a bit of a faff if you ask me and the results definitely varied.
𝒮𝒽𝑜𝓌𝓈𝓉𝑜𝓅𝓅𝑒𝓇 𝒞𝒽𝒶𝓁𝓁𝑒𝓃𝑔𝑒
For the Showstopper Challenge, the bakers were asked to make a cube cake. They reminded me of a certain branded cake but more technical (of course) and with added STRESS. The final products were somewhere between very messy (but still delicious looking) and perfect patisserie.

The result
As the final comes hurtling ever closer, the judges have got tougher on the contestants, making the judging process almost as hard to watch as the bakers creating their bakes each week!
The results this week were
⭐️ Star Baker: Peter
👋🏻 Out: Hermine
This week, the stress levels (both in the tent and for the viewers at home) increased tenfolds! I can’t believe it’s the final of the 2020 series next week, though. I’m sad it’s almost another series over but I’m looking forward to watching and stressing one last time.
Did you watch tonight’s episode? I’d love to chat with you in the comments 😊.
