The Great British Bake Off Season 11 Episode 10 – My Thoughts

Itโ€™s that time again, itโ€™s another episode of The Great British Bake Off but โ€“ this time โ€“ itโ€™s the Final! It only feels like last week we were introduced to a new batch of bakers and now weโ€™ve crowned the latest winner, time flies eh?

Last week, the bakers were put to the test with patisserie as they made savarin, had us cringing over a dodgy looking Cornucopia Technical Challenge and were tasked with creating a cube cake.

This week, the Final Week of the 2020 competition, saw the bakers compete in their final Signature, Technical and Showstopper challenges.

As with my previous posts, Iโ€™ll talk about the bakers, the challenges and the results. SPOILERS AHEAD FOR THE GREAT BRITISH BAKE OFF, SEASON 11 EPISODE 9.

The bakers

Iโ€™m not going to talk much about the bakers this time around but what I will say is that I loved learning a bit more about them and seeing their families, how wholesome?

The challenges

The ninth week โ€“ and semi final โ€“ of the competition saw the bakers . As is standard, they took on the Signature, Technical and Showstopper Challenges.

For the Signature Challenge, the bakers were asked to make 8 custard slices. Not going to lie, I love a custard slice so I was buzzing to watch this challenge. As expected, the heat got to the bakers – and their bakes.

For the Technical Challenge, the bakers were asked to make 8 walnut whirls. It was, as is always the case, very technical! It was very fiddly, very melty but looked delicious in the end.

For the Showstopper Challenge, the bakers were asked to make a dessert tower featuring a cake and 3 different baking disciplines. It was very tense in the tent but they all did it!

The result

The winner of the eleventh series was Peter!

There we have it. Eleven weeks of baking based challenges done and dusted. I love The Great British Bake Off every year but this years series felt extra special to me. I think, after the 2020 weโ€™ve all had, we needed something fun, light and full of deliciousness. Now, Iโ€™ll just be counting down the days until the next series or – maybe, just maybe – streaming the series from the beginning!
