My Goals for 2021

I didn’t keep up with the tradition of getting very drunk like last year but one thing I decided to repeat was writing a post about my goals for the year- can you believe it’s a new one already?

I’m not a fan of resolutions but I do have some goals for 2021 (who knows if I’ll achieve them, but we’ll see!).

I read 53 books in 2020 (you can see what books I read by reading my What I Read in 2020 posts: here, here & here) and I think joining NetGalley, concentrating on more book related content on my blog and Instagram, and actually having the time to read (who knew Covid was good for something?) made me realise just how much I actually enjoy it.

I don’t know how much time I’ll have to read in 2021, with the possibility of a new job and – maybe, hopefully – being able to do more than go for substantial meals on the horizon, but what I do know is that I want to read as much as I possibly can in 2021.

Tone up

I’m not about mad diets and quick fixes, all the things that seem to be everywhere from January 1st, but lockdown has made me aware I do have extra jiggle in places.

I don’t think I’ll be able to join the gym but I do plan to exercise more regularly and get a bit more definition and tone to my body.

Get some writing done

I’m awful for adding this goal to my list every year but – as usual – I’m going to. I tried to do NaNoWrimo (which I had done semi-successfully in 2019) last year but – with everything going on – I hadn’t planned and I just really didn’t have the motivation and drive to put pen to paper (or, I guess, fingers to keyboard šŸ˜‚).

I don’t expect a full novel by the end of 2021 but I would just really like to get some writing done, not even to be published (although that would be great one day), just to prove to myself that I can.

Blog more

I posted a lot of content last year and, as well as being hard work (I definitely have massive respect for anyone who blogs on a full time basis), I’ve realised just how much I enjoy planning, writing and publishing blog posts.

I don’t have a clue what I’ll post about this year – minus several posts I’ve scheduled for 2021, so keep a look out – but what I do know is that I want to keep posting, reach more people and put out as much content as I can.

Get a job

People reading this who know me will probably be thinking ā€œJen, you have a job?!ā€. Whilst that is true – for the moment- I’m only agency staff at my job and, unless my contract gets extended past the end of March, I won’t have it much longer.

I think getting that bit older has made me realise how important job stability is, so my plan is to keep at the job I’m in – and try to stay there longer, if possible – or find myself a new job in 2021…hopefully the interview won’t be on Zoom this time!

Say Yes

Obviously this one is Covid dependant but, after the year of saying no to plans, or not even being able to make them in the first place, I know the same won’t be happening in 2021 (or at least I hope it won’t!)

Even pre Covid-19 I have been guilty of not doing things when I could easily have or getting to a night out and not wanting to be there by the end of it. Obviously you can’t help when you’re in a mood but I’m just going to try to appreciate whatever opportunities get thrown my way this year.

What are your goals/resolutions for 2021? I’d love to chat about them in the comments 😊.
