Being single on Valentine’s Day, and having little dating experience to show for, I thought, rather than dwell on my (rather pitiful) circumstances, what better thing to post about on a day about love than one of the (many) things I love? What is that thing, I hear you ask? Well, books, of course!
You only have to look at the reviews I write, or the books I post about on my social media, to know that I’m big on a good romance. I might be a massive cynic, but something about watching relationships begin and develop on paper makes my heart skip a beat. So that’s why I wanted to have a go at this tag (originally created by CC’s Books, though I found it here). Let’s get into it, shall we?
Stand alone book you love
I don’t gravitate towards non-fiction but this one changed my perspective on the genre. It’s a beautiful, at times heartbreaking, story about life, love and friendship.
Dystopian book you love
Dystopian fiction isn’t something I pick up very often but I remember reading this one ages ago and really liking it. It’s romantic, trashy like all the TV shows I’m loving in lockdown, and an interesting premise.
A Book You Love But No One Else Talks About
I talked about Roald Dahl in my Reading Journey Tag and, aside from the usual Dahl books people talk about, this one is one of my favourites. Nothing much happens but I think it’s the memories I have of my parents reading it to my sister and I when we were younger which makes this book special for me.
Favourite Book Couple
Max and Lina. Lina and Max. So tense. So enemies-to-lovers. So hot. I challenge you to read this and not be obsessed with them.
Book That Other People Love But You Haven’t Read Yet
This one is currently sitting on my bookshelf, waiting to be read. It sounds like something I’d love, and I trust it’ll be good if everyone and their dog has read it, but I think I’m putting it off just in case it doesn’t live up to expectations.
A Book With Red on the Cover
This one is a different kind of love story but a love story nonetheless. You might just need tissues, though.
A Book With Pink on the Cover
I finished this one recently and I loved this. A love story full of humour and heart – I definitely recommend it.
You were given a box of chocolates, what fictional boyfriend/girlfriend gave them to you?
When I was younger, I was obsessed with this book and I couldn’t imagine anything better than sitting writing with a companion like Levi – plus free hot drinks definitely appeal to me!
You are single on Valentine’s Day, what book do you read? What TV show would you watch? What movie would you watch?
I’d definitely suggest reading The Summer Job. It’s a funny, easy-read with a sweet romance. In terms of TV, I’d probably put something as unromantic as possible on – I love comedy so something like Would I Lie to You? is the perfect thing. An unofficial Valentine’s Day tradition for me is to watch Love, Rosie – a gorgeous, real slow burner romance.
You are in a bookstore and all of a sudden, you get hit with Cupid’s arrow, what new release will you love?
I love exploring new places and – considering a holiday doesn’t look as though it’ll be on the cards – I think this book will provide the escapism I need.
