Last night, I had the pleasure of being invited down to Ripolin — the bar front to a city favourite in Liverpool, Down the Hatch.
The place is an expansion on the already successful vegan eatery, serving up unique cocktails and drinks in the independent venue.
The venue, open 8:30pm till late, serves vegan bar snacks and cocktails inspired by a former paint store on the street.
Ripolin originally opened in August 2020 but unfortunately had to close due to the pandemic. Despite the setbacks, last night proved the hospitality industry is back and better than ever.
Owner Joe O’Garra told the Liverpool Echo: “When the right opportunity came about near the [Down the Hatch], we decided to go for it and I began looking at the history of Duke Street for inspiration. I found that there was a paint store called Ripolin on the street in 1973, so paint has become the theme for the bar and influenced the decor. Even the cocktail menu has been designed to look like a colour swatch.”
“Having more time has given us a chance to get everything spot on, and during lockdown we’ve changed the venue completely which has increased capacity, so it’s been a blessing in disguise.”
The bar boasts a comfortable interior, with plenty of seats, and quirky decorations, giving off a casual, relaxed feel, making it the perfect venue for a night out with mates or dates.
As it was a Jack Daniels takeover, the bar served up JD cocktails, beer and shots (which I always tell myself not to drink but somehow always do 😂) alongside a DJ set from Matt McNamara and Kovert Sound.
My friend and I had two cocktails and shots, our favourite being Peach Price – a blend of JD Old No7, Peach, Citric Acid and Lemonade – which I would happily drink again.
After the pandemic pressed pause on nightlife in the city, I’d completely forgotten where to go out once things returned to (more or less) ‘normal’ but it’s safe to say — after this launch —- Ripolin is a must visit if you’re looking for relaxed vibes and unique drinks.
